The increase in electric drive vehicles being manufactured and used on global roadways is a result of the ever-evolving automotive technology. Although the annual rate of automobile crashes has not changed, the cars involved in these accidents have. Electric drive vehicles are now more prevalent on the roads and are more likely to be involved in automobile crashes. The incidence statistics of these accidents involving electric drive vehicles continue to rise each year.

Volta Extrication instructors have more than two decades of experience in responding to roadway incidents and vehicle rescue. Over time, as automotive propulsion system technology has evolved, new challenges have emerged when it comes to vehicle rescue and extrication incidents. To address these challenges, we have adapted and modified our educational content to provide the latest information and best practice recommendations for our class participants.

At Volta Extrication, we offer comprehensive awareness training to equip firefighters, rescuers, and other emergency responders with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify, secure, and mitigate issues with hybrid and electric vehicles. Our classes focus on the hazards associated with electric drive vehicles, including identification, immobilization, and high-voltage energy disabling. We cover topics such as electric drive technology, traction battery technology, charging stations, high-voltage shutdown procedures, extrication considerations, thermal runaway recognition, and firefighting best practices.
